Hotel and Resort Proposal

Share

Re “3-Acre Site Proposed for Hotel, Resort,” Nov. 10.

With the elections a thing of the past, the best future news story will have to be the trials and tribulations of T.M. and Marty Mian. This former Texas couple wants to build a hotel / resort on the old Texaco property across Figueroa Street from Seaside Park.

I hope their Realtor explained to them just what they were in for.

The property is within Ventura’s city limits, so they won’t be bogged down by any SOAR (Save Open Space and Agricultural Resources) sanctions. But with ground zero for the county’s no-growth movement so near, the Mians should be prepared for an absolute deluge of mitigatory mayhem.

And even if they get lucky and don’t run across any Indian relics, endangered or heretofore-thought-extinct weeds or nesting areas and standard-fare traffic concerns, there is the nagging question of what to do with the graffiti of M.B. Hanrahan gracing the fences that face Figueroa Street.

All that can be said to the Mians is good luck and at least two people hope you succeed: your agent (who doesn’t want to get sued) and myself.
