John Blake’s run as Oklahoma’s coach ended at three years Sunday when he was fired by the university’s board of regents. The Sooners won three of their final four games to finish 5-6 this season, but Blake’s record of 12-22 represented the worst three-year stretch in school history. He had two years remaining on his contract. . . . To no one’s surprise, Tennessee remained No. 1 in the Associated Press poll, but the Volunteers remained No. 2 in the USA Today/ESPN poll behind Kansas State. UCLA is will No. 3 in both. . . . Gavin Hoffman passed for three touchdowns and ran for one and Brian Gowins kicked four field goals late Saturday night as Northwestern (3-9) ended an eight-game losing streak with a 47-21 victory over Hawaii (0-11) at Honolulu. Northwestern receiver D’Wayne Bates had nine catches for 146 yards and two touchdowns but fell 23 yards short of setting a Big Ten record for receiving yards. . . . Cara Marie Martin, 18, an Oregon State student, remained in serious condition after she was struck by the goal post torn down by fans after the Beavers’ double overtime victory over rival Oregon on Saturday at Corvallis, Ore. Witnesses told police that Martin pushed a friend out of the way before being struck in the head.
