The City Council, concerned about the possible degradation of the tide pools at Little Corona del Mar Beach, told city staff Monday to gather a panel of experts to examine the severity of the situation. The pools, home to starfish, anemones, crabs and other creatures, attract hundreds of visitors daily, some of whom illegally take samples from the marine refuge. Within 90 days the council wants to approve a group of scientists who will study the pools and determine if permanent damage has been done and if access needs to be restricted.
