Now a full-fledged, critically acclaimed adult virtuoso, violinist Leila Josefowicz returns to her alma mater, the Colburn School of Performing Arts, to appear on the Alumni Series this week. Assisted by her longtime partner, pianist John Novacek, Josefowicz will play music by Schubert, Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky, Gershwin and Vieuxtemps.

6 pm: Parade

It seems perfect that the Hollywood Christmas Parade should start at Paramount Studios and end up near Gower Gulch. Marching bands, equestrian teams, classic cars and stars, stars, stars! Grand Marshal Robert Urich of “Love Boat: The Next Wave” heads it all up.

The 28th edition of the annual Orange County Musicians’ Assn. Bash boasts six bandstands and 10 hours of big bands and dancing, jazz combos and vocalists, Dixieland bands, country western bands and classical ensembles. Grand Marshal Kay Starr gets the spotlight when she sings with the Frank Amoss Orchestra. This is a great place for kids to see music of all types being performed live.

Director Gus Van Sant’s much talked about scene-by-scene remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 horror classic “Psycho” opens in theaters next Friday. Why not rent the original so you’ll be ready for the inevitable water-cooler debates on how the new kids (Vince Vaughn, Anne Heche, Julianne Moore and William H. Macy) stack up against the cast that created the archetypes (Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh, Vera Miles and Martin Balsam)?

Along with set designers Siri-Kartar K. Khalsa and Alessandra Madau, noted storyteller and puppeteerPaul Hansen present “The Real Nut: The True Story of the Nutcracker,” a new version of E.T.A. Hoffmann’s “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.”
