Alice L. Swetek; Ventura County Librarian
Longtime Ventura resident Alice L. Swetek died Wednesday in a Ventura hospital following a brief illness. She was 79.
Swetek was born July 29, 1919, in East McKeesport, Pa. She moved to Ventura from Cambridge Springs, Pa., in 1955.
Swetek graduated from Slippery Rock College in Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree. She served as a librarian for 25 years with the Ventura County Library Services Agency, starting at Foster Library in Ventura. Then she worked with the Bookmobile Library.
She retired as head librarian at Hueneme Library in 1982.
She was a member of the Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Friends of the Library of Ventura County and the Genealogical Society of Ventura County.
Swetek is survived by her husband of 55 years, Steve Swetek; a son, Tom Swetek of Ojai; two daughters, Barbara Swetek of Oxnard and Anne Miller of Vista, and five grandchildren.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Friends of the Library of Ventura County in Ventura.
Private memorial services are planned. Arrangements are being handled by Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
