Residents prevented more than 212,000 pounds of trash from filling landfills during the city’s first fall cleanup, officials announced this week.
The city on Tuesday tallied up the numbers from the cleanup held in the Sears parking lot earlier this month. In addition to hauling in bulky, unwanted appliances, residents also brought in 5,600 pounds of garden clippings and more than 46,000 pounds of scrap metal. Park Disposal Inc., which brought the trucks and bins for the cleanup, donated $518 from sales of the metal to the city’s Beautification-Environmental Commission.
