3-Month-Old’s Death Is Under Investigation
Sheriff’s investigators say the death of a 3-month-old baby Tuesday night may have been caused by parental neglect.
Paramedics called to a mobile home at 10:30 p.m. that night were unable to revive Nicole Stone, who had stopped breathing, detectives said.
“It appears the child did not receive adequate nutrition,” said Lt. Joe Brown of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s homicide unit. “But the actual cause of death will have to be resolved by the medical examiner.”
County coroner’s office officials said they will perform an autopsy.
“We investigate baby deaths all the time,” Brown said. “But this does not look good to the trained eye or the untrained eye--it’s incredibly sad.”
The 26-year-old mother and child lived with two other adults in the 45800 block of Challenger Way. There were no other children at the home, Brown said.
