Gen Art’s Fresh Faces Show Will Make First L.A. Visit

Further evidence that Los Angeles has become a major player in the fashion world: Gen Art, a nonprofit organization that showcases emerging talent in film, art and fashion, will bring its Fresh Faces in Fashion program to Los Angeles on Monday for the first time.

The program gives young designers the opportunity to participate in a runway fashion show that may otherwise be out of reach for them financially.

“We have been doing shows for three years in New York, in which we have used some L.A. designers,” explains Gen Art co-executive director Ian Gerard. “But there is so much talent on the West Coast that we just couldn’t showcase it all in New York--more than enough to do a separate show in L.A.”

Featured designers include men’s and women’s wear designers J. Barnett, John Cherpas, Lady 7, Libbie Lane, Eduardo Lucero, Cherry Pie, Pisces and Freddie Rojas, and accessory designers Adriana Caras, Drea Kadilak, Kathleen Lamberti, Michelle Mason and Tarina Tarantino.

Fresh Faces in Fashion ’98 will take place at Quixote Studios, 1011 N. Fuller Ave., West Hollywood. There will be a reception and accessory showcase at 7:30 p.m., followed by a runway show at 9:30 and a post-party with KCRW-FM deejay Garth Trinidad. Tickets are $40.
