A Bonita High School social studies teacher and track coach has been charged with 30 felony counts for alleged having sex with a 16-year-old female athlete.

David Dangleis, 32, of Diamond Bar faces up to nine years in prison if he is convicted of the charges, the district attorney’s office said.

He was arrested by La Verne police last week at his home after the girl’s father complained to the high school principal and police, authorities said.

His alleged affair with the student began last August, according to prosecutors.

Bonita Unified School District, which serves La Verne and San Dimas, immediately placed Dangleis on leave last week upon his arrest, and replaced him as head track and cross country coach.

Dangleis, who could not be reached for comment, is free on $70,000 bail and will be arraigned Oct. 23.
