Chicago Beats Colorado in Opener

Defender Lubos Kubik scored on a penalty shot in the 50th minute and the Chicago Fire beat the Colorado Rapids, 2-1, in a shootout in Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal series Thursday night before 12,610 at Chicago.
Chicago won the shootout, 3-2, with Jesse Marsch scoring the clinching goal in the sixth round. Goalkeeper Zach Thornton stopped the Rapids’ last three shots.
The Fire had a chance to win in the final 20 minutes, but forwards Ante Razov and Josh Wolff both sent shots wide right.
