Lancaster Controls Muir, 28-6

In a nonleague game Friday night matching size against speed, size prevailed as Lancaster High controlled the line of scrimmage and rushed for 239 yards and four touchdowns to gain a 28-6 victory over host Muir.

After a disappointing loss to Crespi last week, Lancaster Coach Ray DeShane said his team was hungry.

“A lot of kids on this team had tears in their eyes after last week’s loss. We wanted to run the ball this game and that’s what we did,” DeShane said.

Danny Pagnella led the Eagles (3-1) with 97 yards in 13 carries, including a 20-yard touchdown run to open the scoring with 7:24 left in the first quarter.

“The offensive line worked very hard and gave me great blocking,” Pagnella said.

Jason Jacobs, Dominic Flax and Percy Abrams had touchdown runs of one, seven and three yards, and Gary Lu added 59 yards in four carries for Lancaster.

The only points for Muir (1-3) came when Eagle punter Robert La Plante dropped a snap, then kicked the ball illegally as it lay on the ground. The ball was picked up by Muir’s Jon Clinckscales, who ran it 27 yards for a touchdown.

Muir’s James Samuel rushed for 153 yards in 20 carries. The Mustangs were held to 155 yards.

“You always have to be concerned with teams like Muir and you must beat them in order to have a successful season,” DeShane said.
