Thirty-five Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies in riot gear subdued a mob of bottle-throwing youths early Sunday at three motels here, police said.

The deputies confronted about 500 teenagers and young adults in the parking lot of Motel 6 at 607 W. Palmdale Ave. at 10 p.m. Saturday, said Sgt. Russ Hill.

The youths, who were part of a group visiting Palmdale for the “Battle of the Imports” races at the Los Angeles County Raceway, had frightened workers and fellow guests at Motel 6 and two other local motels, Ramada Inn and E-Z 8.

The revelers were getting unruly outside, Hill said. “When we got there, they started name-calling, heckling and throwing bottles.”

Deputies ordered the youths back to their motel rooms, and the disturbance was quelled by about 1 a.m.

One 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of calling in a bomb threat from his room to the motel switchboard as deputies closed in, Hill said.

No injuries were reported.
