Man Stabbed When Auto Is Ambushed

Police are unsure about the motive behind an attack on a man who was stabbed while driving home from a wedding early Sunday.

Damien M. Blakely, 25, was driving on Artesia Boulevard near Fullerton Avenue about 12:30 a.m. when three or four men blocked his car and began smashing the windshield, said Buena Park police.

One assailant reached in the window and stabbed Blakely once in the chest and once in the forehead, leaving the knife embedded in his head. They left in a beige four-door vehicle that might have been a Toyota or a Honda.

Blakely, who had two passengers in the car, drove about half a mile to a gas station in La Mirada and fell out of the car. He was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was in serious but stable condition Monday.

Neither of the witnesses could provide much description of the assailants or knew why they were attacked, Sgt. Ken Coovert said.
