Fredrik Olausson: #2

Age: 32

Defenseman

Shoots: R

Once a Duck, always a Duck. Olausson is back for his second stint in Anaheim. He played for the Ducks for parts of two seasons (1995-96 and 1996-97). Signed from Pittsburgh as a free agent last summer. Expected to quarterback the power play and add leadership on the blue line.

Jamie Pushor: #4

Age: 25

Defenseman

Good size, which is why the Ducks acquired him from Detroit for defenseman Dmitri Mironov at the trade deadline last March. Had an impressive showing in training camp and in exhibition games. Showed he could throw a check and a punch. Ducks hope to see more of it this season.

Center

Shoots: L

Centers the Paul Kariya-Teemu Selanne line, perhaps the most demanding job in the NHL. One of them anyway. Rewarded with a new, four-year, $9.2-million contract before training camp opened. He was the Ducks’ second-leading scorer last season with 53 points.

Defenseman

Considered a promising youngster who is still learning on the job. The potential is there, but he still must take a few healthy strides to be considered a polished NHL defenseman. Rest assured, he will be receiving ample schooling from the Ducks’ veterans this season.

Right wing

Hopes to rebound from a brutal 1997-98 season. Nine goals and 17 points were career lows. Also had a plus/minus rating of minus 25, the worst on the club. Did lead the team with 77 games played, however. Lost about 15 pounds after intense off-season routine.

Might have won the MVP award if the Ducks had made the playoffs last season. Tied Washington’s Peter Bondra for the league lead with 52 goals. Only the fourth player in NHL history to score more than 25% of his team’s goals (52 of 205). Also had 86 points, eighth-most in the NHL.

Acquired from the Colorado Avalanche in Monday’s waiver draft. Expected to play for the Ducks right away despite only 15 games of NHL experience. Good skater. Deft puck handler. Also played some on right wing in his brief time with the Avalanche last season.
