Former NHL player Stephane Morin, who played last season for the Long Beach Ice Dogs of the International Hockey League, died of an apparent heart attack during a German league game.

Morin, who had been playing for the Berlin Capitals, collapsed and died shortly after scoring three goals Tuesday night in Oberhausen. He was 29.

After his first-period hat trick, he left the ice early in the second period complaining that he wasn’t feeling well. Morin lost consciousness shortly afterward on the bench. The game was stopped after he collapsed.

Doctors failed to revive him and he was pronounced dead at a hospital.

An autopsy is being done.

He is survived by his wife Karen and son Frederick, 2.
