Two women were killed Friday afternoon in a two-car traffic accident, according to authorities.

The names of the victims were not immediately released.

The accident occurred about 4 p.m. at San Fernando Road and Sierra Highway--near the intersection of the Golden State and Antelope Valley freeways--said Bob Collis of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Four people were riding in a Camaro and one in a Firebird when the vehicles collided.

A woman in her 50s who was riding in the Camaro was pronounced dead at the scene, Collins said. Another woman, in her 60s, was in full cardiac arrest when she was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where she died.

Two men also in the Camaro--ages 53 and 69--were taken to the hospital with head trauma and other, less serious, injuries, according to authorities.

The 16-year-old boy driving the Firebird was treated at Holy Cross for minor injuries, Collins said.

The accident was still under investigation late Friday, police said.
