‘Labor Shortage’

You made a good thing into a bad thing! Here we are at below 5% unemployment and when I had finished “Restaurant, Retail Jobs Go Begging” (Oct. 5) I was left with the feeling that we need more people out of work!

You used words like “acute” and “labor shortage to worsen” (instead of “more people have jobs”). You seemed to lament that now some businesses have to pay more than minimum wage to recruit workers. There’s a very positive side to this “labor shortage” (I say “high employment”) and I am sorry, in this day and age of lots of negative news, that The Times did not choose to see the very bright side of the issue also.
