City Honored for Redevelopment Effort

The California League of Cities recently presented the city with a top award for its redevelopment of downtown.
The city received the Helen Putnam Award in economic and community development for its downtown revitalization program, Fullerton 2000 and Beyond.
In the last year alone, 25 businesses, including 10 restaurants, opened downtown. Many projects, including library and Police Department expansions, are on the way.
Mayor Don Bankhead said he was pleased with the recognition.
“It is gratifying to see that many years of effort on the part of the City Council, the staff and the community to preserve Fullerton’s historic downtown business district are being recognized,” Bankhead said.
The program earlier this year received the 1997-98 Achievement Award from the California Downtown Assn., a statewide nonprofit advocacy organization committed to the preservation and economic health of business districts.
