George W. Leisz; Former Head of Aerojet

George W. Leisz, 75, a former president of Aerojet-General. During his presidency of Aerojet in 1988, the company had 8,000 employees and exceeded $1 billion in sales. He retired in 1989 but continued to be active in the industry as a managing partner of Carlisle Enterprises LLC, a firm based in La Jolla. He leaves his wife of 52 years, Jacquelin, two brothers, two sisters, three children and nine grandchildren. Memorial services will be held today at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in La Jolla. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the ARCS Foundation, San Diego Chapter, Box 8394, Rancho Santa Fe, CA 92067-8394 or the United Methodist Church. On Oct. 8 in La Jolla.
John MacGregor; Author, USC Dean
John Geddes MacGregor, 88, distinguished professor emeritus of philosophy at USC. MacGregor wrote 31 books, with a focus on philosophy and religion. His works include the Dictionary of Religion and Philosophy and “Images of Afterlife: Beliefs From Antiquity to Modern Times.” MacGregor taught at USC from 1960 to 1975. He was dean of the graduate school of religion at USC and became distinguished professor of philosophy in 1966. He is survived by one daughter and one son. A memorial service will be held at St. Nicholas Episcopal Church in Encino at 4 p.m. Oct. 25. On Oct. 9 in Los Angeles.
Tony Marvin; Talk Show Host, Radio Announcer
Tony Marvin, 86, who was the announcer on Arthur Godfrey’s show for 14 years and the official voice of the New York World’s Fair in 1939. In one noted on-the-air incident, the temperamental Godfrey became angered at a comment that Marvin made and told Marvin: “You and that big fat mouth of yours.” Marvin joined CBS in 1939 as a newsman working on reports for Edward R. Murrow and William L. Shirer. After leaving the Godfrey show in 1959, Marvin became a newscaster for Mutual Radio and eventually had his own talk show. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothea, and a daughter. On Oct. 10 in Boynton Beach, Fla.
