Once, Twice, Trice
Cal State Northridge isn’t known as a football power, but the Matadors have won their share of big games over the years. One of the biggest came on Oct. 10, 1993, when they beat host Nevada Las Vegas, 24-18, behind running back Robert Trice, who rushed for three touchdowns and a Northridge-record 278 yards. It was the Matadors’ first victory over an NCAA Division I-A team in 17 years.
Setting the Stage
Northridge will host Montana State on Saturday afternoon in a game that could decide the Big Sky championship. Speaking of highly anticipated showdowns, none had a bigger buildup than the 1967 Junior Rose Bowl. Northridge, then known as San Fernando Valley State, lost to West Texas State, 34-14, before more than 30,000 in Pasadena.
High-Water Mark
Northridge achieved its highest ranking ever when it climbed to No. 5 in the Division II poll after opening the 1988 season 4-0.
