New Lanes to Open on Highway 126

Caltrans on Wednesday is expected to open new lanes of Highway 126 stretching from Center Street in Piru to the Los Angeles County line, transportation officials said.

Over the past several years, the 5.4-mile stretch of highway was widened from two lanes to four. The $11.4-million project also added a new drainage system and a new concrete retaining wall. Commuters traveling that route were previously required to slow down to 45 mph in construction zones. Speeds in those areas will revert to 55 mph, except through Fillmore, where the speed limit is 40 mph.

Construction will continue, however, on another part of the highway stretching from the county line to the Golden State Freeway.

That $15.1-million project is expected to continue until April.
