* The Phoenix Museum of Art opened “Splendors of Ancient Egypt” earlier this month, a show of 200 artifacts dating back to 3000 BC. Highlights include a head of a statue of Ramesses II, an 18-foot scroll of the Book of the Dead and a 1.5-ton tomb statue of dignitary Hem-iunu. Phoenix is the only southwest stop for this touring exhibit from the collection of the Roemer-Pelizaeus Museum in Germany. * At the Scottsdale Center for the Arts, jazzman Joshua Redman plays Saturday at 8 p.m. Magic and comedy duo Penn & Teller play Nov. 5-7. * The Phoenix Symphony Orchestra presents a program of Leonard Bernstein music Friday and Saturday. * The Heard Museum of Southwestern art features Zuni and Navajo jewelry in “Blue Gem, White Metal: Carvings and Jewelry From the C.G. Wallace Collection” through April. The Heard Museum North has an exhibit of Hopi kachina dolls ranging from contemporary carvings to pieces made in the late 1800s.
