Lankershim Roadwork Finished a Week Early

If you had planned to avoid the NoHo Arts District because of Lankershim Boulevard’s partial closure this weekend, don’t.

NoHo is open for business and all roads are passable, according to Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials who said they have finished street restoration work ahead of schedule.

MTA officials had planned on closing Lankershim between Burbank and Chandler boulevards for six consecutive weekends.

But construction crews wrapped up the work Monday morning, finishing in five weekends, MTA officials said.

During the next two months, crews will construct new curbs, sidewalks and gutters. At some point, the affected portion of Lankershim will have to be closed again on a weekend so that a final layer of asphalt can be applied.

The road had been closed to restore a part of Lankershim damaged by Metro Red Line subway and station construction in North Hollywood.

Ed Scannell, spokesman for the MTA, said the early finish would help businesses get back on track.

While the work aboveground is nearly complete, there’s still more work needed underground to complete the North Hollywood subway extension by May 2000, MTA officials said.
