Seminar Will Address Y2K Computer Bug

The South Orange County Chambers of Commerce is hosting an informational seminar next month to address concerns over the year 2000 computer problem.
Also known as Y2K, the problem centers on computer chips that record dates with two digits. When the date changes from 1999 to 2000, computers will read “00” and think it is 1900, possibly crashing their systems and databases.
“There are two kinds of people: those who are not working on the year 2000 problem and aren’t worried, and those who are working on it and are terrified,” said Willie Alexander, program director for the chambers.
Year 2000 expert J. David Stewart of Dana Point will give the seminar.
Stewart is a Wall Street financial analyst credited with first identifying Y2K’s potential impact on the stock market.
The seminar costs $20 and will be offered Nov. 20 at 7:30 a.m. at the Aliso Viejo Public Library. Reservations are necessary. Information: (949) 830-1100.
