Fire Causes $1 Million in Damage at Strip Mall
An early morning fire at a strip mall caused about $1 million in damage to three businesses Monday, authorities said.
Fifty firefighters spent more than an hour dousing flames at the mall on South Street, said Henry Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department. No one was hurt in the blaze.
A shop specializing in hobby equipment, a YMCA gymnastics center and a drugstore were badly damaged, Rodriguez said. Firefighters managed to prevent flames from spreading to three other businesses in the mall.
