Bosnian Refugees to Display Textiles

Bosnian refugee women affiliated with the art therapy program “Susret/Encounter: Arts and Refugees” are exhibiting their textiles at the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Museum of Tolerance through Feb. 14. The hand-crafted carpets, tapestries, quilts and wall hangings are based on works donated by internationally recognized artists from 25 nations.

The refugees, who live in Austria, create textile interpretations of the artworks as a means of healing and earning a living in exile. During the first four days of the show, one of the refugees, Nura Mahmutovic, will demonstrate traditional Bosnian weaving techniques.
