Pitcher Mike Kunes, The Times’ baseball player of the year from Chatsworth High, said Thursday he has committed to UCLA.
Kunes, a left-hander, was 12-2 with a 1.77 earned-run average for the Chancellors (29-4) last season. He batted .425 with 37 runs batted in.
Kunes was selected City Section 4-A player of the year.
He’ll join a UCLA team in 2000 that includes pitcher Kurt Birkins of El Camino Real, who pitched last season against Kunes in the City final at Dodger Stadium.
“I’ve been wanting to go to UCLA since 10th grade,” Kunes said.
The first day to sign a letter of intent is Nov. 11.
