4 Men Sentenced in Canyon Country Gang Shooting
Four men were sentenced Friday to state prison and probation in connection with the shotgun wounding of a rival gang member in Canyon Country last spring, according to authorities.
Miguel Hernandez, 21, Alberto Juarez, 18, and Raul Ballesteros, 19--all of Canyon Country--pleaded guilty to felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies in Santa Clarita.
Hernandez, Juarez and Ballesteros were sentenced in San Fernando Superior Court to state prison terms of six, three and two years, respectively, according to detectives.
Another man, Daniel Proschuck, 19, of Newhall pleaded guilty to a felony charge of being an accessory after the fact and was sentenced to three years’ probation.
The drive-by shooting occurred March 8 on Stillmore Street in Canyon Country, authorities said.
Arturo Romero, 24--described by investigators as a gang member in the Canyon Country area--was hit in the shoulder and neck by shotgun fire. He was treated and released from Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.
Sheriff’s detectives from the Santa Clarita station’s anti-gang unit arrested the men a short time after the shooting.
Hernandez and Ballesteros remained in custody after their arrest but Juarez is expected to surrender to the court, according to authorities.
