EMPIRE

Katella kept it close with late turnovers, but hung on to defeat Century, 12-6, in an Empire League game Friday night at Glover Stadium.

The Knights (6-1-1, 2-0-1) fumbled the ball away three times in the second half, but Century turned only one of the mistakes into points.

After Katella running back Richard Mango fumbled on the Knights’ 39-yard line, Century backup quarterback Gil Godinez hit Ralph Ramos for a 28-yard touchdown pass to make it 12-6.

Katella quarterback Chris Haller (five of 11 for 160 yards) fumbled the first snap of the next possession to set up Century at the Knights’ 21-yard line. Peter Espinoza’s 31-yard field goal attempt was blocked by a host of Knights.

Century (2-6, 1-2), which got the ball again after a fumble by Francis Johnson with 2:56 remaining, got a first down after pass-interference penalty on fourth and 15 but still came up empty.

Johnson led the Knights with 80 yards in 27 carries, and had a fourth-quarter 53-yard touchdown run erased because of a holding penalty.
