Hoping to better accommodate students at Cal State Northridge’s campus in Ventura, college officials are offering more daytime and Saturday courses and will be using classrooms at Ventura High School.

The Ventura campus has also expanded its administrative hours. During the fall semester, which began Monday, the campus will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday; and 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. It is the first time in eight years that campus offices will be open and courses offered on Fridays.

Campus officials hope that the expanded daytime course offerings--from roughly 12 last year to 24 this year--will enable students who have been enrolled in community college programs to transfer and continue their studies in Ventura.

Sixteen evening courses have also been scheduled to cater to working adults. The evening courses will meet at Ventura High School during the fall semester, which will ease parking pressures at the Ventura campus.

Campus officials say the changes illustrate the critical need for a permanent campus being planned in Camarillo.
