San Diego Freeway Carpool Lane Opens
After nearly three years of construction, Caltrans has opened the first segment of a carpool lane that will eventually stretch from the Long Beach Freeway to Normandie Avenue.
The 2.5-mile section on the northbound San Diego Freeway extends between Avalon Boulevard and Normandie Avenue, said a Caltrans spokeswoman.
The lane will be continued four more miles to the Long Beach Freeway, and a six-mile carpool lane will be built across the median on the southbound San Diego Freeway.
The $28.2-million project will be finished in October, she said.
