Sonoma County Victory Ends Vigilantes’ Postseason Hopes

The Vigilantes’ postseason hopes were crushed Tuesday night.

Sonoma County’s Todd Pridy hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning, leading the Crushers past the Vigilantes, 4-2, in a Western League game at Rohnert Park.

The loss eliminated Mission Viejo (48-41) from a shot at a playoff berth. The Crushers (49-40) earned a playoff spot and will face Southern Division-winner Chico.

Mission Viejo starter Brent Hansen (5-8) had a no-hitter after five innings, but things fell apart in the sixth.

Steve Dietz opened the inning by reaching on an error. After Dietz stole second, Vernon Spearman broke up the no-hitter with a run-scoring single to center. John Casey then walked, followed by Pridy’s homer to left field.

The Vigilantes scored on a fifth-inning home run by Bodie Shepherd and an RBI single by Phil Kernan in the eighth.

Winning pitcher Tony Coscia (10-4) went seven innings, giving up four hits and one earned run.

The Vigilantes will face the Crushers again tonight.
