The condition of a woman who received the liver of a slain 12-year-old boy improved Wednesday and she was able to speak to relatives, said her sister.

Lori House, a he Moreno Valley bookkeeper, managed to talk to her parents and was ecstatic and happy to be alive, said Jodi Yanker, her sister.

House received the liver at Loma Linda University Medical Center on Monday in a seven-hour operation. The organ came from Steven Morales, the Little League baseball player and professional wrestling fan, who was shot over the weekend while playing on a Highland Park street.

A male gunman may have mistakenly believed he was firing at a rival gang member last Saturday night, police said. Relatives and detectives said Steven wasn’t involved in gangs.

Yanker said her sister spoke over the phone to Jack Morales, Steven’s father, whom she has not met. Yanker and Steven’s parents have said they want to meet one another.
