Kirk Irvine pitched eight innings and gave up only five hits to lead the Vigilantes to a 5-0 victory over Sonoma County in a Western League game Wednesday night at Rohnert Park.
It was the final game of the season for the Vigilantes, who tied Sonoma in the standings (49-41). The Crushers, however, advanced to the playoffs by winning the tiebreaker: more victories against Southern Division opponents.
Irvine (7-6), who had six strikeouts, provided the Vigilantes a little revenge for Tuesday’s loss to Sonoma, which knocked the Vigilantes out of the postseason.
The Crushers will face Southern Division-winner Chico to open the playoffs.
Kevin Tahan’s RBI single gave the Vigilantes their first run in the second inning. Robert Muro hit a sacrifice fly to score Phil Kernan in the third. Kendrick Davis’ two-run double in the fourth gave the Vigilantes a 4-0 lead. Their final run of the season came on Manny Gagliano’s bases-loaded walk in the seventh.
