Players Get Some Time Off

With plenty of minor injuries and no game this week, USC Coach Paul Hackett gave the players today, Saturday and Monday off with only a light practice Sunday before they begin intense preparations for San Diego State on Tuesday.

There weren’t many offensive linemen practicing Thursday, with Travis Claridge ill, Matt Welch nursing soreness and Eric Denmon and Rome Douglas excused from practice until Tuesday because of family issues. Douglas and Denmon, who flew home to Texas, are excused until USC’s next full practice Tuesday.
Ken Bowen, sidelined since the preseason because of an elbow injury, is expected to return soon, but the metal brace he has been wearing would be illegal in a game and he’ll have to use something more padded.
