A sweep on the road hasn’t happened too often for the expansion Arizona Diamondbacks. Winning with only one run has also been rare for the Diamondbacks, or any team for that matter.

Both happened Thursday, compliments of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Brian Anderson outpitched Francisco Cordova for his first career shutout as the Diamondbacks completed a three-game sweep of one-run games at Three Rivers Stadium, defeating the Pirates, 1-0.

Anderson gave up three hits and struck out four, while Cordova also went the distance, striking out 10 and giving up four hits.

Arizona won its team-record sixth consecutive game. The Pirates, a major league-worst 17-30 in one-run games, are one loss away from being mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

Matt Williams’ two-out single in the third inning drove in the game’s only run as the Diamondbacks swept their third series.

Milwaukee 7, Colorado 3--Brad Woodall homered and pitched six strong innings, and Dave Nilsson hit a pair of two-run homers for the Brewers at Milwaukee.

Woodall (7-8) struck out seven and allowed three runs on nine hits. His first career home run, a solo shot to right, put the Brewers up for good, 3-2. Later that inning, Nilsson hit his second homer of the game, his fifth in seven games.
