Driving home runs is Juan Gonzalez’s forte. And when he’s getting RBIs, the Texas Rangers are usually winning.

Gonzalez drove in two runs to better his club record single-season RBI mark and Will Clark drove in four runs as the Rangers beat the Minnesota Twins, 9-3, on Friday night.

“We need to keep scoring lots of runs of every night,” said Gonzalez, who improved his major league-leading RBI total to 146. “Our bullpen is tired and they need all the run support we can give them.”

Gonzalez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in a five-run third, and added a run-scoring double in the eighth.

Gonzalez surpassed his own team record of 144 RBIs set in 1996, and extended his hitting streak to 15 games, longest on the team this season.

The Rangers, who are 1 1/2 games behind the Angels in the American League West, pulled within to within 6 1/2 games of Boston in the wild-card race.
