An 18-year-old Oxnard man was in custody Saturday after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen car through some of the city’s busiest streets.

Benjamin Sixto Hacuman was arrested on suspicion of driving a stolen car, reckless evading and felony hit-and-run after a police chase Friday night.

Oxnard police said they tried to stop Hacuman after they saw him with three other men in an allegedly stolen vehicle near 2nd and B streets. But he began driving south on Oxnard Boulevard on the wrong side of the road, police said.

The car hit a sidewalk at the corner of Rose Avenue and Billings Street. The four men ditched the car and tried to escape on foot, authorities said.

Oxnard police caught the men, who had all sustained visible injuries from the crash. Police booked only Hacuman, who was in custody at the Ventura County Jail.
