Residents who want to vote in the Nov. 3 election must be registered by Oct. 5.

The Los Angeles County registrar and clerk’s office said registration forms may be picked up at city clerk’s offices, the county clerk’s office, any Department of Motor Vehicles office, city halls, libraries and post offices.

“We try any and all avenues to get individuals to vote . . . we make advisories and try to make registration forms available in as many locations as possible,” said Grace Chavez, a spokeswoman for the registrar-recorder/county clerk.

To be eligible to vote, an individual must be a United States citizen, 18 years or older by election day, and a California resident. Also, anyone who changes their place of residence or party affiliation must register again, Chavez said.

Individuals who are in prison or out on parole for a felony conviction and those who are deemed mentally incompetent by an appropriate court are not eligible to vote, she added.

“Voting is extremely important,” Chavez said. “In some instances, one person’s vote can be the deciding factor, especially when you’re talking about school districts or the local community. Some people seem to think that their vote doesn’t count, but if you put all those individuals in a stadium, it would be overflowing.”
