Armed Robbers Take $35,000 From Market
After rushing in while an employee was locking up, three gunmen handcuffed employees and a customer and stole about $35,000 from a Van Nuys market, LAPD detectives said Tuesday.
At about 9 p.m. on Monday, the armed men entered the Mr. Pancho Market at 6201 Kester Ave. as a female employee was closing the security gate, said Det. Greg Demirjian of the LAPD’s Van Nuys Division.
“One [employee] was nice enough to let someone come in and buy something and the other suspects rushed in,” Demirjian said. “The store does stuff like Western Union and cash checks, so they have a lot of money in the store.”
The gunmen handcuffed four employees and a customer and made them wait in the back room on the floor while the gunmen cleaned out the safe, Demirjian said.
The three robbers then fled the market, at the corner of Kester and Delano Street, in a late-1980s, dark-color Honda Accord, Demirjian said. There were no injuries.
The suspects are described as Latino males in their 20s or 30s, Demirjian said. One has a teardrop tattoo by his left eye, a goatee and short hair. Another has shoulder-length curly hair.
