Crash May Be Case of Road Rage, Police Say

In what authorities call a potential case of road rage, officials were searching Wednesday for a motorist who apparently caused a motorcyclist to crash after a highway confrontation.
Criston Mathis, 40, lost control of his motorcycle when a sport utility vehicle made what may have been a deliberate unsafe turn into his path on a freeway transition road, the California Highway Patrol said.
The accident occurred about 7:35 p.m. Tuesday on the transition road from the westbound Foothill Freeway to the southbound San Gabriel River Freeway, said CHP Officer John Escobedo.
Moments before the crash, Mathis and the driver of the other vehicle apparently exchanged words or gestures on the westbound Foothill Freeway, Escobedo said.
Paramedics took Mathis to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries, officials said.
The CHP is asking that any witnesses to the incident call Escobedo at the CHP’s Baldwin Park office, at (626) 338-1164.
