Hearing for Mayor’s Wife in Sex Case Delayed

A judge agreed Thursday to delay a pretrial hearing for the wife of Pasadena Mayor Chris Holden, who is charged with six felony counts of unlawful sex with two teenage minors.
Michelle E. Holden’s attorney, Albert DeBlanc Jr., said he requested a delay until Nov. 2 to allow him more time to investigate the case.
The 35-year-old mother of four was indicted by the grand jury in July on four counts of oral copulation with a minor, one count of sex with a minor and one count of a lewd act with a minor. She also faces two misdemeanor counts of annoying or molesting a child under the age of 18.
Holden has plead not guilty.
DeBlanc said outside the court that his client provided a “statement of denial” to investigators. He said Michelle Holden also was not read her Miranda rights before she was interviewed by police investigators.
Previously, Pasadena Police Chief Bernard Melekian had said police investigators had acted properly.
Superior Court Judge Joseph F. De Vanon, in granting the delay, said the case would go to trial within 30 days of Nov. 2.
