Improvements, Median Planned for 183rd Street

An estimated $750,000 in road improvements is planned in the next year for a strip of 183rd Street, city officials said.
The road between Marquardt and Shoemaker avenues will be repaired and a landscaped median added along a main thoroughfare close to the city’s Towne Center development area, said city spokeswoman Annie Luger.
The street repairs are intended to help the city handle extra traffic flowing in and out of the expanding Towne Center. A new headquarters for L.A. Cellular is under construction there and will employ about 1,000 people when it is finished next year, she said.
The city is opening bids on the road project next week. The repairs are expected to begin in October and last until early next year, she said. During the work, traffic along 183rd will be restricted to one lane in each direction, she said.
