Motorists will get a sneak preview of the Old Towne circle’s new look next week, when workers simulate extensive renovations that will remove a traffic lane.
In April, the City Council approved a plan to spend $500,000 to remove the brick sidewalks and expand the walkways to restore the Old Towne Plaza so that it more closely resembles its origins in the 1880s, planners said.
The plaza area will be closed to traffic beginning 9 p.m. Sunday. , The reconfigured streets will reopen at 5:30 a.m. Monday. On Wednesday, the plaza closes at 10 p.m. while workers take down the simulation and reopens Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
