No. 23 TEXAS (1-0) at No. 6 UCLA (0-0)

* Kickoff: 12:30 p.m. at the Rose Bowl, Channel 7.

* Story line: For all the hype of the showdown between Heisman Trophy candidates Cade McNown and Ricky Williams, the team implications should not be underestimated.

* UCLA update: The Bruins have a 10-game winning streak for only the third time. Another victory would mean a school record--and a major boost for the No. 6 national ranking, their highest since 1989, before playing the next two weeks on the road. “Now we’ve got to go out and prove we deserve that recognition,” Coach Bob Toledo said.

* Texas update: The honeymoon is over. New Coach Mack Brown and the Longhorns opened with a 66-36 victory over New Mexico State, but now get UCLA and No. 5 Kansas State in a row, both on the road. Williams rushed for 215 yards and a school-record six touchdowns last week. Another 74 and he passes Earl Campbell for the top spot on the Texas all-time list.
