A man who said he was part of a Neighborhood Watch program molested a Huntington Beach youth Thursday night while claiming to search for drugs, police said.

The 13-year-old victim was skateboarding near 5th Street and Pecan Avenue about 8:25 p.m. when a man pulled up in a car and said he needed to search the youth, police said.

The boy consented; the man placed his hands in the teen’s front pants pockets and groped the youth, police said. The boy yelled and pulled away. As he ran and told his parents the man escaped in his car, described as possibly a Ford Mustang from the 1970s or ‘80s with rust and primer spots and a torn interior, police said.
