Running back Dache Dameron rushed for a school-record 278 yards and two touchdowns and Spencer Grace scored three touchdowns as visiting Villa Park routed Katella, 56-20, Friday night at Glover Stadium.

Dameron consistently found gaping holes and gained 189 of his yards in the first half in only 14 carries, including an explosive 58-yard touchdown run. He also had a five-yard touchdown run in the half. He finished the game with 23 carries.

Grace, a tight end and defensive end, caught two touchdown passes from sophomore quarterback John Henry Jackson and intercepted a pass on the Knights’ one-yard line and stepped into the end zone for a touchdown to begin the scoring in the first quarter. His touchdown receptions of seven and 16 yards came as the Spartans (1-1) pulled away in the second half.

Villa Park linebacker Jon Moshfegh returned an interception 15 yards for a touchdown and wide receiver Dallas Dapper (nine carries, 126 yards) scored on a 38-yard reverse in the first half.

Katella (1-1) trailed, 26-20, at halftime, but was fortunate to be that close. After blocking a punt and recovering at the Villa Park one-yard line, Katella running back Frances Johnson pushed it over for the score. Katella also scored when Al Williams fumbled on a kickoff return and Bob Nita plucked an out of midair and ran 64 yards for a touchdown.
