Ex-University Instructor Honored for Service

* Fred Bowman of Thousand Oaks has been selected as the 1998 recipient of the William E. Hamm Outstanding Service Award by the Community Leaders Club of Cal Lutheran University. The award is presented annually to a member who has shown exemplary service. Bowman is a Cal Lutheran faculty emeritus who taught in the communication arts department from 1966 to 1989.

Group Gives $1,500 to Habitat for Humanity

* Ventura County Habitat for Humanity received $1,500 from Friends of Long Canyon. The donation will be used to pay for construction materials required to complete home repairs and rehabilitation projects in Simi Valley. Friends of Long Canyon is an all-volunteer organization of people who live and/or work in Simi Valley and support the completion of the Long Canyon residential project.

Chamber Lists Community Award Recipients

* The Camarillo Chamber of Commerce announced the recipients of its Community Awards. The honorees are recognized as a “person, business or club whose deeds and actions have contributed to the betterment of the Camarillo community,” according to the chamber.

Woman of the Year: Allyson Gold.

Youth of the Year: Dennis Hsieh.

Senior of the Year: Kitty LaPolla

Business of the Year: The Bread Basket.

Public Servant of the Year: Stan Daily.

Educator of the Year: Bruce Collel.

Service Organization of the Year: Ventura County Leadership Academy.

Volunteer of the Year: Joanna Whipple.

The awards will presented during an Oct. 2 ceremony.
