Chris Rutherford passed for 162 yards and two touchdowns, and the Apaches (1-1) withstood a late Vaquero rally in a nonconference game at Glendale.

Southwestern jumped to a 24-0 halftime lead with Rutherford completing seven of eight passes for 151 yards. Rutherford completed a 96-yard scoring pass to Curtis Wright on the Apaches’ first play from scrimmage.

Apache running back James Jones rushed for 133 yards in 20 carries and scored on runs of five and 71 yards.

Glendale (1-1) rallied, outscoring Southwestern, 19-7, in the second half and 12-0 in the fourth quarter.

Mike Frost completed 27 of 46 for 289 yards and two touchdowns for the Vaqueros. Chad Heydorff caught scoring tosses of eight and 12 yards for Glendale.

Darrell Durham rushed for 129 yards in 18 carries and scored on a 58-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Penalties nullified two Vaquero touchdowns in the third quarter.
