* EMC Corp., the world’s largest maker of computer storage systems, hired IBM executive Cosmo Santullo to lead its global marketing efforts, a position that had been vacant for a year. EMC, based in Hopkinton, Mass., designs, makes and sells computer-related hardware, software and service products for corporations and governments worldwide. Santullo, 42, is a 20-year veteran of IBM Corp. He was most recently general manager of sales and service for the North American PC division.

* IBM Corp. will promote Abby Kohnstamm, vice president of marketing, to head its marketing operations. Kohnstamm was behind an advertising campaign that attempted to update the stodgy image of the world’s largest computer maker. James Vanderslice, vice president and group executive of the storage systems division, will be promoted to oversee a new group focused on IBM’s computer component sales to other companies. Both promotions are effective Oct. 1.
